Creating a mood without a clear subject can be tricky, so abstract photos are hit-or-miss. What really makes this photo is the motion and shape of the ripples.


I'm making uncooked fresh salsa, which is much better than the bottled kind. Basically, take all the ingredients and chop finely. I don't use a food processor because it whips in air bubbles. Chop each vegetable separately into little pieces, then continue chopping until it almost becomes a mush. It should be easy to pick up with a chip.

  • garlic
  • red pepper
  • onion
  • green onion (for colour)
  • jalapeños!
  • pepper
  • cilantro (not optional!)
  • salt
  • more salt
  • just a bit more salt to bring out the flavours
