udaipur reservoir

udaipur reservoir

In India, the weather is hot and dry or hot and wet. Since ancient times, they've built 'tanks', which are areas (much like rice paddies) where water collects in the wet seasons for use in the dry seasons. I'm assuming this is such a reservoir because it's right next to the lake. The walls are pretty fancy too, so maybe it was for the use of the palace, which is the building on the left.
