road to bolpur

road to bolpur

This was taken on the road from Santiniketan to Bolpur. We walked the 2km distance and it was enjoyable because the traffic was light, and comprised mostly of motorcycles and bicycles, and the sun wasn't too hot. A lot of the shops were closed, presumably because it was afternoon nap time. We stopped at a chai/food stall where nobody spoke much English, though everyone knows what 'chai' means so it didn't matter. The youngest son of the owners was fascinated, and managed to ask our names. Then the two boys rode off on a bike, and I expected them to return with friends, and I was disappointed when they didn't.
